The significance of retail sector in our economy can be gauged from the data published by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. According to which retail and wholesale sector in Pakistan has grown to Rs. 3.6 trillion, representing around 18% of country’s GDP since 2012. Further, there are around 2 million retail outlets in the country.

In a report titled 'Hidden Heroes - The Next Generation of Retail Markets' (2011) published jointly by Deloitte and Planet Retail-USA, ten emerging economies, with huge potential for growth of retail sector were identified. Pakistan was included in the list of top ten countries with a potential of phenomenal growth in retail sector in coming years.
